I had a wonderful time in Budapest, and I believe that choosing where to stay in Budapest can really shape your trip.

Depending on your style of travel, I will offer you the best areas to stay in Budapest. I won't be naming standard neighbourgoods like other guides. I will pin down the exact locations in Budapest for specific reasons.

So let's dive into it!

For ultimate convenience - part of the Belváros area

I believe that this specific part of the Belváros area (also called the Inner City) in Budapest is the most convenient location to base yourself at:

Belváros in general, is more of an upscale neighbourhood, so it will be slightly more expensive, but you will be walking distance away from all the major attractions. The Inner City area is the most central location to stay in Budapest in terms of sites. This will be a great location if you are short on time and want to see as much as possible, or if you are visiting for the first time. Also features a great metro station in case you have time to explore further areas in Budapest.

Most fun area - Old City Center

If you are after more fun times in Budapest, then this specific location in the old city center will be your best choice:

This is where all the famous ruin bars are and loads of amazing restaurants. This is one of the busiest parts of Budapest, and it will be great if you want the social scene to be at your fingertips. Also great for nightlife, so it can be a bit loud at the same time. Just check reviews when booking a hotel and make sure noone is complaining about the noise. From here, also a lot of sites on the Pest side are within walking distance, but if you want to explore the Castle district on the Buda side, then you might want to consider getting a short Uber or Bolt ride.

For a more peaceful visit - Buda Castle District

If you don't want to stay in a busy part of the city center, then the better choice will be to stay on the Buda side. For that, the best area will be the Buda Castle District, specifically centered here:

This exact Castle District location will give you great access to all the main sites on the Buda side, like Fisherman's Bastion and Buda Castle. Also, you will be conveniently located near the famous Chain Bridge. This will allow you to easily get to the Pest side or just have a wonderful stroll across the bridge or by the Danube River. From this side, of course, I believe you get the best views of the iconic Hungarian Parliament Building.

For long term stays in Budapest

For all the digital nomads looking to stay in Budapest for a longer period of time, I recommend this area by the City Park:

If I were to stay in Budapest for a month, that is where I would book. I think for long stays the City Park adds a lot of value and you will be close to the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, which is a great way how to spend your time in Budapest. Plus, you are walking distance away from the busy bar and restaurant part. So you are staying in a calmer area but close to everything you might need during your stay. This area also has a convenient metro station that will allow you explore further parts of Budapest.

Visiting Budapest is a must, but picking a great location to stay in Budapest that suits you the best will make all the difference!
