I had the pleasure to stay in and explore Skopje for 6 weeks, so in this article, I have summarized the best areas where to stay in Skopje based on your style of travel and priorities.
Let's dive into the best places to stay in Skopje ⬇️
Skopje Old City Center
Skopje City Park Area
The Aerodrom Area (+Sky City)
Skopje Old City Center
This will be ideal for all those staying short-term as part of their travels and wanting to be in the most convenient location.
The purple circle shows the center of Skopje, where all the main sites are. like Macedonia Square, Stone Bridge, and Old Bazar. In this area, you will also find loads of local restaurants, bars, and shops.

Staying in this location will provide you with everything you need within walking distance. So no need for a car in case you are flying in. And if you want to escape the city buzz, even the big, beautiful city park is within walking distance.
City Park Area
For those staying in Skopje a little bit longer than just a quick stop, I recommend any accommodation by the City Park. The absolute best location I have pinned down is within the dark blue circle.
It is an ideal location as you are close to the park and can enjoy a really good quality of life while staying in Skopje. And at the same time, the city center with all the main sites is within walking distance or a short drive away.
The Aerodrom Area
For those looking to embrace a proper local life, I recommend the Aerodrom Area. Especially the area within the green circle.
Staying within the green circle will give you access to the riverside area where all the locals go. If you are a digital nomad who likes to go for runs, train outside, or you are traveling with a dog, this will be an ideal area for you. Away from the central buzz but still close to everything you need. And a great neighbourhood to live a proper, normal life.
I stayed in an apartment at the Sky City and absolutely loved it. Had the gym and grocery store downstairs and loads of green space around me to go for walks alone or with my little maltipoo Rio. Also, walking with a dog exposes me to a lot of socializing, so it was great to meet and talk with locals in the area, as everyone is so friendly here and in Macedonia in general.
